18 November – 23 December 2011
Sydney based artist Alan Jones, presents Wyalkatchem, a series of large oil paintings and sculptural works that continue the artist’s exploration into notions surrounding identity through the use of personal subject matter.
The exhibition sees Jones trace his family history to the rural town of Wyalkatchem in Western Australia where he grew up as a child. Earlier this year Jones and his father embarked on a road trip back to the town and this series of new portraits stems from experiences and photographs taken on the trip as well as old family photographs and memories. Through the use of personal subject matter in his artworks, Jones situates himself as an artist who confronts his own idiosyncrasies to communicate the intricacies of human connections and relationships.
