In The Tiger In Me, Ryan Nazzari utilises watercolour and pencil to develop a series of colourful and whimsical self-portraits. These loosely formed drawings combine Nazzari’s self-portrait with images of jungle creatures to create strange, hybrid animal forms that explore self and the artist’s own personal interior.
Nazzari’s intense gaze peers out from each portrait, contrasting the playful nature of the animal elements in the works. There is a particular focus on tigers in the drawings, which have featured as a reoccurring motif throughout Nazzari’s practice. Accompanying the self-portrait series are similar brightly toned works that meander into further imaginative experiments with figuration and colour.
