Kate McMillan

Paradise Falls
15 June - 20 July 2012

West Australian artist Kate McMillan is at the forefront of Australia’s contemporary art sphere and Venn Gallery is delighted to be presenting her solo exhibition, Paradise Falls.

In this series, McMillan presents a significant body of works produced as a culmination of her 2011 six-month residency as a guest of the renowned Christoph Merian Stiftung Foundation in Basel, Switzerland.

Paradise Falls showcases the artist’s dexterity with a diverse range of media, including painting, drawing, photography and film. With a focus on island sites and places that exist in isolation, McMillan has situated her solitary subjects amid the natural beauty that is Germany’s Black Forest, Wadjemup (Rottnest Island), W.A and the winter landscapes of Switzerland. The works attempt to draw parallels between physical landscapes and the psychological landscapes of the artist’s own memories and broader cultural histories.
