SILK ATLAS - NEW WORK BY DAVID COLLINS

Venn Gallery artist David Collins’ newest body of work is currently on show at Melbourne’s Fehily Contemporary. Silk Atlas marks the Western Australian photographer’s debut at the Collingwood gallery and his third solo exhibition for 2013.

Collins’ began the year with White Rhino at Melbourne’s Edmund Pearce Gallery, which was soon followed by Plastic Eden, the artist's second time showing at Venn Gallery.

Silk Atlas sees a continuation of Collins’ renowned aesthetic of richly textured and hyper-theatrical tableaus that depict scenes of beautifully adorned, idle bodies engaging with utopian environments.

This photographic series examines Western society’s long-standing romantic misperceptions of other, faraway lands and suggest that despite Australia’s growing multiculturalism, misinformed ideas about foreign and exotic cultures remain at the forefront of our collective consciousness.

Silk Atlas concludes today.
